Serve the World Day

On the 5th June this year 2010, 800 youths from Hope Church Singapore, in partnership with Hope Centre, were sent out to all corners of Singapore embarking their one day's journey to bless and impact the needy and underprivileged in Singapore, an event they called "Serve the World Day".

With the kind donations from Nippon Paints, some of these youths visited 58 one and two rooms flat through coordination with various organisations such as South West CDC, AWWA, Christian Outreach and Sunlove Neighbourhood Link. They did a great job cleaning and re-painted many of these flats to give them a brand new look. Tapping on the cash donation from Hope Centre and some of the youths' parents, the youths also went on to refurnish many of the flats, as well as stocking these families with fresh grocery packs.

Some of the youths also went to befriend the residents from 10 other Voluntary Welfare Organisations namely the Boys' Town, Teen Challenge's Half-way House, Blue Cross Home for the Intellectually Disabled, Bushan Home for the Intellectually Disabled, New Horizon Centre, SUNDAC, All Saints' Home, Surya Home, Thuja Home and Hougang Care Centre. The youths also did cleaning and painting services for some of these organisations.

Overall the responses among the beneficiaries were overwhelming; many of them were grateful for the youths and impressed with their initiative and passion in blessing the unfortunate. The youths themselves also gave very positive feedback and many shared that the experience was an eye-opening one for them to learn lessons that can't be taught within the four walls of a classroom. Many of these youths have even signed up for more volunteering opportunities in future and make Serve the World Day a yearly event.
